Chidambareswarar Vadakalathur is a very small temple but old temple. There is a damaged and abandoned Lingam outside which is said to date back to the old days. Some time back the locals are said to have witnessed a bright light emanating from this lingam on the Pradosham night for nearly 30 minutes! The Panchaloha Utsava idol of Lord Kalyanasundareswarar is now under the protection of the Archaeological Department and was brought for the Kumbabishekam in recent times.

History

Chidambareswarar Vadakalathur dates back to the Chola Period and was unattended for long. It was renovated with the help of locals and one Mr.Govindarajan from Chennai somewhere in 2009. The temple idols were stolen by someone some years ago and was recovered by the police and reinstated. This person in his statement has revealed that while trying to remove the goddess’s idol he had become blind! (information from Mr.T.R.Palanisamy’s blog)
