Madhava Perumal Mylapore is a beautiful and well maintained east facing temple. The area enclosed by the temple is large and includes the temple tank also which is south of the temple.

History

Madhava Perumal Mylapore is said to be very ancient, though its history is traced back to only 800 years according to available records.

Mythology

According to Mayurapuri Mahadhmiyam in the Brahmandapuranam, when Sage Vyasa requested the Lord to show him the holiest of places where he could do penance, he pointed out Madhavapuram (Mylapore). This is also where Sage Bhrigu had earlier set up a hermitage and did penance to get Goddess Lakshmi as his daughter at Madhava Perumal Mylapore .

Directions

Take a left after Mylapore police station at Kutchery road while proceeding from Luz circle to reach Madhava Perumal Mylapore. Behind Madhava Perumal Mylapore is the famous Mundakanni Amman Temple also.
