Vaidyanathar Thittakudi is a large east facing temple with a large 5 tier Rajagopuram. The goddess shrine is separate with its own Prakaram and a smaller 3 tiered entrance Gopuram. Both the shrines are interconnected. Sage Vasishtar has stayed here and observed penance and was called Thiru Vasishtapuri, later Vasishtakudi and then corrupted to Thittakudi.

Vaidyanathar Thittakudi is an ancient temple. Historical information is not available as of now.

Legend

Indra was cursed by Sage Gauthama to have eyes all over his body for trying to seduce his wife. After much suffering he came to this place on the advise of Sage Vasishta, prayed to the lord and got relieved of the curse here at Vaidyanathar Thittakudi. Hence the lord’s name is Vaidyanathaswamy – the one who can cure diseases.

Vaidyanathar Thittakudi is in the center of the town which is about 30 kilometers southwest of Vriddhachalam.

Thittakudi is fine for tea and snacks. Otherwise closest is Vriddhachalam.
