Chidambareswarar Koovathur is an ancient dilapidated temple overrun by weeds all around. The two entrances in the east and south are obstructed with weeds and fallen pillars. The eastern entrance is a large stone gateway with a mantapa in front. The temple has a single prakaram in which is situated the sanctum sanctorum and a Mantapa.

History

Chidambareswarar Koovathur is said to date back to the Pallava Era. Due to some disputes over control of the temple cases had been going on for a decade or more. Finally, it has been declared that the temple is to be controlled and administered by the Hindu Religious & Charitable Endowments Department, Government of Tamilnadu.

Chidambareswarar Koovathur is 3 kilometers on the ECR after you cross the Paalar Bridge while going from Chennai. It is near the Thiruvaleeswarar Temple which is visible from the main road with its 5 tiered Rajagopuram.
