Mythology

King Kulothunga could not get cured of spell even after visiting many temples.  Lord Vishnu appeared in his dream as an old man and asked him to visit the Ooraga Perumal Temple at Kancheepuram where he worshiped and got relieved of the spell. As a mark of his gratitude he built Ooraga Perumal Kundrathur temple. While constructing Lord Vishnu granted darshan to him as Tirupati Venkatachalapathy. He then decided to install the idol as a replica of Tirupati Venkatachalapathy in his standing form.
