Brahmapureeswarar Perunagar is an east facing temple with entrance through a 5 tiered Rajagopuram in the south. The temple has 2 Prakarams. As you enter from the south Chakra Vinayaka faces you from a separate shrine. The outer Prakaram has Nandavanam (flower garden), temple tank and other shrines. The Vimaanam is in the form of Gajaprastham (resembling an Elephant back). Jeshta Devi worship used to be popular in the ancient days and she is seen here. The Bhairava is without his Vaahana (Mount), the Dog. We were told by the priest that all the important idols here are made of Emerald. The Navagrahas are installed on respective Yantras. The Brahmotsavam festival here is celebrated in a grand manner. This is one of the participating temples in the annual ritual of 18 temples during Thaipoosam.

History

Brahmapureeswarar Perunagar has several inscriptions all around. They mention the donations of land and other articles to the temple including lamp lighting ritual by Kulothunga Chola in 1073 CE, details of tax collection and more. Inscriptions of Rajaraja Chola II are also found. Kachiappa Sivacharyar who lived more than 1100 years ago has composed a hymn on the lord of this temple.

Brahmapureeswarar Perunagar is 21 kilometers south of Kancheepuram in the Vandavasi Road and 15 kilometers west of Uthiramerur via Manampathi.
