Varadarajar Arcot is an east facing temple situated on the banks of the Palar River. The temple welcomes you even as you come in the highway with its 5 tiered Rajagopuram. Varadarajar Arcot has a single Prakaram and the entire temple has been renovated in recent times. A large temple car has been built along with additional shrines for other deities.

History

Varadarajar Arcot is said to be more than 1500 years by the temple administration. This Chola period temple was damaged during the British rule and was lying in a state of disrepair. From 1936 till date various features were added bringing the temple back to its old glory.

Arcot is in the Chennai-Bangalore highway. Varadarajar Arcot temple is just after you cross the Palar River Bridge and visible from the main road itself.

Arcot has many decent restaurants. One particular sweet called the Arcot Makkan peda is very popular and The Arcot Chettiyar Sweet Stall in its 187th year is supposed one of the best for this sweet.
