In this locality there are five shiva temples representing the Panchaboothas, Five Elements namely Land, Sky, Fire, Water and Air. This temple represents Fire (Agni). The other temples in this group are Devabandalam (Earth), Mookanur (Sky), Kaduvanur (Air), Raavuthanallur (Water).
