Vedanarayana Perumal Valayamadevi is a grand old temple with a 3 tier rajagopuram and high walls. The sanctum sanctorum is on a high solid base. A monolith Dwajasthambam (lamp mast) is seen outside the entrance. Vedanarayana Perumal Valayamadevi temple has a legend connecting it with the Srimushnam temple (see legend section below).

Vedanarayana Perumal Valayamadevi is an ancient temple, but the historic information is not available as of now
Legend
Sage Karthayayani prayed to Lord Surya and got a daughter who was married to Varaha Perumal of Srimushnam. She in turn prayed to Surya and got a bangle (Valai) from him. Hence the name Valayamadevi for the place. This marriage scene is depicted here at Vedanarayana Perumal Valayamadevi.
